Curated for Connection: Robin Becic Brings Art to Life in Lake Oswego

When Cascade Hasson Sotheby’s International Realty expanded its stunning Lake Oswego office, the goal was more than just to add square footage—it was to create a space that inspires. That inspiration now begins the moment you step through the doors of Suite 302, thanks to a dynamic art collection curated by local artist and gallery owner, Robin Becic.
Robin, who opened the Robin Becic Gallery in downtown Portland in 2021, has long believed in the power of art to transform not only walls but communities. With a BFA in painting and decades of experience as a practicing artist, her gallery is a modern, intimate space that showcases local and emerging talent—often those who haven’t yet had the opportunity to be seen in traditional gallery settings.

Robin’s partnership with Cascade Hasson began through a longstanding connection with Laura Martin, Principal Broker, and a fellow board member at the Multnomah Athletic Club. When Laura introduced the idea of showcasing artwork in the newly expanded office, Robin saw more than an opportunity—she saw a blank canvas.
“I selected abstract artists so viewers could engage more deeply with the work,” Robin explained. “In a world saturated with literal images, abstraction gives space for reflection and interpretation.”

First Impressions That Stay With You
The first piece guests encounter is by Ross Mercer—a striking abstract composition of bold blues and oranges. “It’s a statement piece,” Robin notes, “perfectly placed to greet visitors with both visual harmony and intrigue.” A former physicist turned self-taught artist, Mercer weaves scientific themes and equations into his abstract work, drawing from a rich career in applied physics and a passion for the unseen forces that shape our world.
“Sometimes he’ll begin a canvas with a sketch of a formula,” Robin shares, “and then paint around it, layering until the math is obscured—but its energy remains.”

Art That Echoes Emotion
Further into the space, the work of Steve Kleier strikes a balance between abstraction and representation. Born and raised in the Pacific Northwest, Steve’s pieces are emotionally resonant interpretations of landscape—less about the literal place, and more about the feeling of having been there.
Robin intentionally placed Steve’s pieces where advisors and clients often gather for meetings. “The goal is to offer a sense of calm,” she says. “Something familiar but not obvious. Like a dream of a coastline you’ve seen before but can’t quite place.”

Layered Landscapes, Transformed Memories
Positioned along the office’s widest, most light-filled corner, three expansive works by Laura O’Brien pull the viewer deeper into a more textural story. Laura describes her process as “emotional cartography,” where memory, place, and imagination overlap. Her work is filled with layered narratives—“paintings within paintings”—that invite second and third glances.
The synergy between each artist’s approach and the space itself is no accident. Robin carefully matched the scale, energy, and emotion of each piece to the architecture and atmosphere of the office. The result is a gallery-like experience inside a high-end real estate setting—something few firms can claim.

A Shared Vision
The collaboration reflects the deep connection between Sotheby’s International Realty and the fine art world, and as Gary Nolan, Chief Marketing Officer, explains:
“Art is central to the DNA of Sotheby’s world-renowned auction house. Partnering with a gallery owner like Robin is not just a decorative choice—it’s a brand alignment.”
And for Robin, the impact is mutual. “This partnership allows my artists to get their work in front of an audience who appreciates design, craftsmanship, and storytelling,” she says. “It’s another kind of gallery—one where conversations begin, business is done, and beauty surrounds it all.”
